LAURIE BAKER, FORMER 1998 OLYMPIAN WILL HEAD OUR GIRLS ONLY PROGRAM FOR THE SUMMER OF 2007

 

Laurie Baker, 1998 US Olympic Gold medalist, USA Hockey Player of the Year, and current Head

Coach at Lawrence Academy will team up with Bill McCarthy, Coach of the year, and current head coach at Andover High School, to provide a weekly skills program for each age group. The younger program will concentrate on general skills and the High School program will be an advanced skill program. We will have guest instructors and former teammates of the Olympic gold medal team throughout the summer.

 

We will also combine this session with the Professional trainers from One80 off ice training. This will be offered at Phillips Academy prior to each skill session. For more information one this optional program please locate the One80 button on the left side of the home page.

 

Our girl's only program will be divided into two sessions that will meet on Thursday nights at Phillips Academy.

 

The first session will be for girls in the U13 age group for the 2007 season. This session will focus on improving the fundamentals outlined in the weekly skill format outlined below.

 

Week 1: Discovering your edges                    

Week 2: The importance of balance 

Week 3: Stopping and starting                        

Week 4: Hockey turns/ quick acceleration   

Week 5: Backward skating and transition

Week 6: Crossovers

Week 7: Shooting and Stick handling   

Week 8: Battle Skills

All of our weekly skills are reviewed each week with the purpose of  building a foundation for the young players to build on throughout the entire program.

HIGH SCHOOL SKILLS SESSION

 

This skill session will be conducted for the advanced Girls player. Our Staff will conduct each weekly session with more advanced in depth drills and higher tempo. Each participant will be given a detailed analysis of the progress she has made and recommendations on areas of improvement needed to master various skills. We will follow a similar program as outlined above.
